CASAS evaluates the potentials and limits of the 4 per mille initiative, published at COP 21. The initiative aims at adopting land and soil management strategies that increase the SOC pool by 0.4 percent annually thereby mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. CASAS checks the credibility by re-evaluation of well documented experiments on all types of managed soils, of monitoring sites and by a literature review. We will develop a 4 per mille scenario in economic terms. Outcomes are a qualification of soil management strategies under consideration of the environment-economy nexus and the sustainable development goals.
